Frequently Asked Questions about the Hey Dummy Mail Club

Why is it called the hey dummy mail club?

I’m 10 months postpartum and recently experienced a mindset shift. With my second child I experienced a much different postpartum experience than my first. To keep things short, I was left feeling exhausted in motherhood and physically heavy (another way to say fat) and just broken in my body. I hated seeing what I had become. At 40 years old, I was starting to look and feel 40 years old, which, in a world of millennials that look 10 years younger, is just ridiculous. So little by little I changed my habits in the rollercoaster of just becoming a mother of two boys. Boy, am I tired.

First I cut out my daily treat intake, then when I was physically able, I walked wherever I could.

I started doing short workouts while my baby watched, I started cooking my own meals when I used to Uber Eat most of them.

I started doing longer at-home worries when I could.  Then, finally, I joined back at the gym. It was hard because I was up every 2-3 hours at night, even now, unable to leave my baby during the day.

So when did I find the time?
I reviewed my daily routine to see when I could go. The time I settled on was 9:30pm when my kids were finally asleep. For background, I would classify myself as someone who is neither a morning or night person. So this was out of my comfort zone. But I stuck to this time some weekdays even on days when I felt exhausted. My tiredness for 2 nights out of the week couldn't matter because if I didn't do this for myself, I couldn't get where I needed to be. If you want to change, you need to make a change.  If something doesn’t change you stay the same and, that keeps you feeling unhappy with yourself.  That was the case for me. Life is short and if you have to wait for the perfect circumstances to get there, you may never find the right time.

Changing habits is not easy and part of it is realizing you have to do the hard things to get there.  If you are in this boat, I classify you as a dummy because if you know what needs to be done, you need to just stop being that dumbass, making excuses, and just do the hard thing. I know some people may take offense to that, and TBH, I feel worried to offend people but at the same time it’s the type of tough love some people need to finally make a change. It could be the best change you ever make.

Disclaimer: I’m not saying you have to look fit to be happy. And I’m not saying not to eat certain foods or live a certain way. But, if you made it this far, I'm sure there’s a version of you that you would be so happy to be and it may have nothing to do with fitness or health. Anyway, you might not be that person now, and maybe you’ve tried becoming them, and you need help getting there. If so, don’t be a dumbass and join my main club.

What gives me the right to call you a dummy?

When you join, you may be called a dummy, dumbass, dumb bitch or dumbass bitch. If I feel so inclined, I may call you all four at a time just for funsies. So what gives me the right and why would you join. This club isn’t for everyone but if you’ve been wanting to glow up or level up yourself in health, fitness, your mindset and other personal goals, join. If you need a little tough love to gain a little perspective to finally take action on what needs to be done to reach your personal golds, you need to join.

So what gives me the right?  Really, nothing. But I am on a glow up journey too. I’ve seen what having health and fitness goals can do because I had a transformation in my mid 20s through consistent resistance training and healthy eating. But somewhere along the way I fell off. I just had my second  child 10 months ago and I consider that I am in the middle of a glow up. So far I’ve developed some habits doing certain things when they have been hard doing these same things years ago when I was single, when I was just married or when I had just one child.

Why would I want to start this club when I’m not even there yet?

Good question.  Sharing gives me accountability. I’m getting there and I want to share the tools I’m using to reach my goals and cute art to inspire others.  It allows me to hopefully help others in reaching a mindset shift in their life that I’ve recently discovered being at my current stage of life and taking action.  I’m also currently learning and opening up my mind to other ways of thinking and hope to share all that with you too.

What are my credentials?

Once upon a time I was a gym rat. I’ve tried the workout classes - yoga, general group fitness (where we punch the air and do light to medium weighted workouts), Muay Thai, cross fit.  I’ve eaten clean. I’ve lifted heavy. But that was when I was childless with so much time in the world and energy to focus on myself. I no longer want to be a gym rat, but I do want to be fit, strong, and comfortable in my body, confident to wear whatever I want.  It may not happen in months or maybe not even a year, but I’m taking steps to make changes in a realistic timeframe that can hopefully keep me consistently fit and healthy for the rest of my life.
